Gene L. Habeck, 88, Weston, died Sunday July 3, 2016 at the Hospice House.
He was born July 28, 1927, in Schofield, son of the late Walter Sr. and Ora Madge (Bentley) Habeck. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy.
Prior to his retirement, Gene had a long and varied career on the East Coast involved in his specialty as an electrical engineer with Xerox, General Electric and National Cash Register. Later, Gene taught data processing at Nicolet College in Rhinelander and at North Central Technical College in Wausau.
Gene was an avid skier and was a longtime instructor at Granite Peak Ski Hill. Through the years he was involved in and enjoyed many different sports, including, golf, bowling and baseball.
Survivors include his children, Steven Habeck and his children, Phoebe, Eddie, Stevie Lynn & Angie; Bruce (Mary Pat) Habeck; Jeff Habeck; Paul (Diane) Habeck and their daughter, Holly; Gene Jr. (Chrissy) Habeck and their children, Talia & Gene; Sue Jackson and her children, Hannah & Bailey; Pam Habeck and her son, Andrew; his remaining one brother, Don (Pat) Habeck, Tomahawk, the last of the 12 siblings.
Gene is further survived by his longtime companion, Jan Stroik and her family which Gene considered his own, Sandra (John) Feldmann and their family, Eric & Corey Beth; Bruce (Diane) Stroik and their sons, Jacob & Ethan; Chuck (Wendi) Stroik and their family, Nikkol & Caleb; four great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Gene was preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters, Faythe Habeck, Audrey Earl, Walter, Harley, Trueman, Allen, Merlyn, Ervin, Patrick and an infant brother, Leander Habeck.
Memorial Services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday July 23, 2016 at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Rev. Joy Nelson-Jeffers will officiate. Visitation will be on Saturday July 23, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the Sixth Street funeral home. The Hospice House staff and volunteers became an important part of Gene's life in his final days. He loved them all and appreciated all they did for him.
