Gene Dettmering 64, Machesney Park, IL peacefully passed away on Monday, Oct 2nd at Rockford Memorial Hospital surrounded by family and friends. He was born January 9, 1942 in Wausau, son of Margie (Hackbarth) Dettmering, Wausau and the late Raymond Dettmering. Gene, a Rockton/Roscoe Bus Driver and retired Welder/Inspector for Chrysler, passed quietly to be with "Jesus" following a struggle with cancer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Gene is survived by his loving wife Judy;childeren Todd (Janet) Dettmering of Rockford, Tammy (Kerry) Lenort of Madelia, MN; three grandchildren, Caleb, Kasey and Jazlyn; mother Margie Dettmering of Wausau, WI; brothers Dennis (Mary) Dettmering, Deerbrook; Gary (Mary) Dettmering, Rothschild, and niece Nicole of Wausau, WI; and Gene's dog Maggie. Gene was preceeded in death by his father Raymond Dettmering and a grandson, Timmy Dettmering. The funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2006 at Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Deacon Robert Anderson will officiate. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum. Friends may call on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at Memorial Chapel Mausoleum. A special thanks to the staff at Rockford Memorial's cancer unit for all their care and support. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established by the family.
