Genadean C. Schumacher

Genadean C. Schumacher, 79, Marathon died Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at her home. She was born February 19, 1934 in Edgar, daughter of the late Anton and Cecelia (Dahlke) Wirkus. On October 16, 1956 she married Merlin Schumacher at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. He survives. Genadean retired from Wausau Insurance Co. after more than 18 years. She loved listening to polka music, reading and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and her great grandson. Survivors include her husband, Merlin Schumacher, Marathon, her children, Russell (Coreen) Schumacher, Marathon, Mary Jo (Mark) Schulte, Phoenix and Sandra Schumacher, Eagan, Minnesota, two grandsons, Jeremiah (Amelia) Schumacher and Christopher (Truly) Schumacher and one great grandson, Tristan Schumacher. Besides her parents she was preceded by her brothers, Robert, Joseph and Willis Wirkus and two sisters, Loretta Karlen and Grace Knetter. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Monsignor Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services all at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Genadean's name.
