Gary L. Schurter, 83, Wausau, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at his residence, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
He was born May 3, 1938 in Tremont, IL, son of the late William and Mildred (Luick) Schurter.
For over 30 years, Gary worked as an electrical engineer for Marathon Electric and retired as Vice President of Engineering. He traveled extensively around the world and was instrumental in the development and design of the electric motor in the St. Louis Arch.
Gary was a proud member of Alcoholic Anonymous for over 30 years.
Among his favorite pastimes, he liked woodworking and metal work, handcrafting many beautiful knives. He also liked bird watching as was a great storyteller.
Survivors include sons, Theodore (Kim) Schurter and Paul Schurter, Wausau; grandchildren, Savannah, Karlee, Storie, Spencer, Trevor and Julia; step-children, Michael (Beth) Denzin, Lake Mills and Michelle (Jake) Trussoni, North Prairie; and step-grandchildren, Samuel and Nathan.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rae; his second wife, Carole; his daughter, Colette; and his brother, Wayne.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at Restlawn Memorial Park Chapel, Wausau. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at the Restlawn Chapel.
