Gary G. Rehm, 76, died Sunday, September 22, 2024, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born December 3, 1947, in Menomonie, son of the late Gordon and Virginia (Huth) Rehm. He graduated from Eau Claire Memorial High School and later from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He married Anne Leonard in Eau Claire on June 3, 1968.
Gary and Anne moved to Athens in 1970, where he worked for Western County Insurance. He then started his own business, Rehm Realty, that he operated for more than 30 years. Rehm Realty took him all over North and Northcentral Wisconsin where he made a friend in every little town he came across, often with one of his daughters and family dog along for the ride.
Gary was very active in his community, coaching for Athens Little League teams, and pitching in to help Athens High School teams-starting track/field races, keeping score for baseball, taking tickets at football games, and occasionally harassing basketball referees. He was an active member of the Athens Fair Board, including time as president, and ran the Bingo Tent for many years. He was a generous supporter of St. Anthony’s Catholic School.
Gary and Anne moved to Wausau in 1995 where he continued to run his business until his retirement. He and Anne spent many springs in Gulf Shores, AL and Laughlin, NV, where he enjoyed sunshine and frivolity.
Gary was fiercely loyal - a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He taught his daughters they could do anything and believed his grandchildren were the best ever produced – just because he was biased, does not mean he was wrong! He enjoyed hosting family and friends at their cabin in Weston where his unique brand of humor was often on display. Skiing on Big Rib Mountain and in the UP were regular events. He loved nothing more than to make others laugh and laugh right alongside.
Gary loved sports – playing them (he was a two-time state baseball champion for the Old Abes), especially golf, where he frequented the local courses; coaching them; and watching them (especially his grandchildren), all with a side bet or two. He rarely turned down a game of Sheepshead or Poker over a cocktail and a cigar. Gary used every single Fun Ticket this life allotted him.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Rehm; daughters, Cari Anne (Tony) Renlund and Karla (Brian) Zoeller; grandchildren, Sam (Molly McKee) Renlund, Leo Renlund, Oliver Zoeller and Evelynne Zoeller; great-grandchildren, Callan and Caysen; sister, Kristi Voelker.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
