Gary G. Horvat

Gary G. Horvat of Wausau, formerly of Rice Lake, entered eternal life on Monday, December 8, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. He was born in Chicago on June 7, 1949 the son of George and Audrey Horvat. He was surrounded by beloved family and is survived by those who loved and cared for him during the past few years, his wife Mary-Jane, daughter Katherine (Jason) Teiken, son of his heart Darren (Chrissy Kunzman) Trimner and daughter of his heart Sarah Trimner (Michael Soehl) and his beloved grandchildren Owen, Benjamin and Emelia Soehl. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Susan (Eddie) Mazique and brother-in-law John (Sally) Nelson who all encouraged him with cards, letters and visits and freely and often expressed their respect and affection for him. In addition, he is survived by a son Jeffrey Horvat, daughter Erin Thunholm, grandson Lucas Thunholm, mother Audrey Horvat and sisters Beth Teasdale and Marilyn Froze. Gary was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and son. As the former CEO of Michigan Peer Review and The New Mexico Medical Review Association, he was committed to the improvement of medical care. With an innate sense of curiosity Gary loved learning, exploring and traveling. He has been described as loyal, loving, faithful, caring, committed, hard- working, generous and fun loving by those who knew him best. He gave generously of his time, talents and treasures to his children, charities and church. He graduated from North Park University and Northeastern Illinois University and supported all his children in their quests for higher education. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be held at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau from 4-7 pm on Wednesday, December 10, 2014. The funeral will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wausau of which he was a member at 11 am Thursday, December 11, 2014 with visitation one hour prior to the service. Additionally the family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Ministry St. Clare's Hospital and Ministry Home Care Hospice for their compassionate care given to Gary and his family.
