Garry L. Kufahl

Garry L. Kufahl 55, Marathon, died Saturday, February 19, 2995 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 6, 1949 in Wausau, son of Ella (Draeger) Kufahl, Wausau and the late Alvin Kufahl. On March 28, 1981, he married Phyllis (Behnke) Heise at St. John's Lutheran Church, Rib Falls. She survives. Garry was a veteran of the US Army. He was a dairy and ginseng farmer in the town of Rib Falls and then worked as a machine operator for Marathon Cheese Corporation. Garry was a former member of the Rib Falls Lions Club and Alois Dreikosen Post #469, American Legion, Marathon. Besides deer hunting, fishing, gardening and doing landscaping, he loved his shelties. Garry had a knack for fixing and creating just about anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Besides his wife, Phyllis Kufahl, Marathon and his mother, Ella Kufahl and friend, Willard Block, Wausau, survivors include two step- daughters, Lori (John) McCord, Athens and their daughter, Jessica McCord and Lynn (Scott) Cyzan, Wausau; three step-sons, Lon (Laura) Heise, Marathon and their daughter, Maylee Heise and Lowell (Melissa) Heise, Marathon, Larry (Christine) Heise, Edgar, and their children, Joseph, Tara & Kristin Duberstein; siblings, Eldon (Rita Dombrowski) Kufahl, Arbor Vitae, Jean (James) Titzkowski, Minocqua, Ervin (Kathi) Kufahl, New Franklin and Sandra (Richard) Desotelle, Rib Mountain; brother-in-law, Jerry Klinger, Wausau; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, Carol Klinger. The memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at St. John's Lutheran Church, town of Rib Falls. Rev. Terry Reich will officiate. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until the time of services at the church. The family will also greet friends following the service.
