Florence Disbrow

April 19, 1916 — May 10, 2008

Florence Disbrow 92, Madison, formerly of Wausau, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Hospice Center, Fitchburg, Wis. She was born to the late Richard and Emma Maaser in Wausau on April 19, 1916. On November 16, 1940, she married Robert Disbrow at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Wausau. He preceded her in death on November 21, 2002. She was a lifelong member of the United Church of Christ. Florence and her family lived away from Wausau for a number of years. While they were raising their children in Janesville, Florence worked for several years as a bookkeeper at Rock County Social Services. Florence and Robert returned to Wausau following his retirement from General Motors in the early 1980's and moved to Madison in 1999. Prior to her death, she lived at Avalon Assisted Living in Fitchburg. She was a member of the Mother's Club at St. Paul United Church of Christ. Among her many interests, she was an avid gardener and loved the outdoors, fishing, camping and time spent with her family and friends. While at Avalon, she enjoyed playing bingo and Friday night poker games with her friends. Her ready smile, sense of humor and clever wit will never be forgotten. Survivors include, two daughters, Sue (Frank) Bernardo, Green Valley, Ariz. and Nancy Disbrow, Fitchburg; one son, Rick (Anna Eberl) Disbrow, Lakewood, Colo.; three grandchildren, Steve (Mark Freshour) Bernardo, Monona, Angela (Lance) Cain, Parker, Colo. and Jaime (Rowena) Disbrow, Littleton, Colo.; five great-grandchildren, Amanda Wirth, Eleanor Cain, Samuel Cain, Sophia Cain and Ryan Disbrow; two step-great granddaughters, Randee and Nicki Baca; four sisters-in-law, June McCormick, Ruth Disbrow, Olive Disbrow and Luella Maaser; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Disbrow in 2005; one granddaughter, Jennifer Bernardo in 2006; one sister, Myrtle Steckling; and one brother, Earl Maaser. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Rev. Mary Kay Sauter will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau. Friends may call Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Online condolences at www.petersonkraemer.com
