Florella D. Berghammer

Florella D. Berghammer 86, formerly of Athens, died peacefully, Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at Wausau Manor Nursing Home where she had made her home for several years. She was born January 8, 1918 in the town of Halsey, daughter of the late Paul (1938) and Anna (1971) (Riemer) Weise. On September 6, 1938 she married Arthur Berghammer in Athens. He preceded her in death on August 2, 1988. Florella and her husband, farmed in the town of Johnson until selling the farm in 1979 and moving to the village of Athens. Besides enjoying her flower garden, needlecrafts, playing cards, polka Music, baking and a good joke, she enjoyed participating in activities at Wausau Manor. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and Van Buren Homemakers Club for many years. Florella was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include three daughters, Jean (Leo) Bornheimer, Marathon, Beverly (Ronald) Scheffler, Wausau, Carol (Thomas) Ballerstein, Stratford; one son, David (Janice) Berghammer, Spokane, Wash.; Six grandchildren, Donna Bornheimer, La Crosse, Craig (Nicole) Scheffler, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Jill (Andy) Ferguson, Ames, Iowa and Jeff, Michael and Julie Berghammer, Washington; one sister, Stella Foss, Monona; and one brother, Roland (Hildagard) Weise, Green Bay; sisters-in-law, Arlene Fiedler, Til Thorsen, Muriel Berghammer and Betty Berghammer. She is further survived by two step-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Ruth Streich, Esther Hoge, Goldie Schueller, Leona Smith and Elsie Hoge; three brothers, Arno, Walter & Elmer Weise. The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2004 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Entombment will be in the Memorial Chapel Mausoleum at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. The family of Florella would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff of Wausau Manor for their care of our mother. A special thanks to Nathlie Schuett. May God bless you all.
