Evelyn "Evie" M. Strombeck
87, Wausau, died Monday, November 29, 2010 at Colonial Manor Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Wausau.
She was born November 1, 1923 in Athens, daughter of the late Reinhard and Mary (Sompel) Schultheiss. On November 5, 1955, she married Melvin Strombeck at The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. He preceded her in death on November 15, 1982.
Evie was a SFC in the United States Army and worked as an Army Recruiter in Cleveland, Ohio from March 30, 1949 until October 15, 1952. She loved being a homemaker and enjoyed time spent working in her yard and attending to her garden.
Survivors include, one brother, Louis (Pat) Schultheiss, Wausau; one sister, Ethel Niewolny, Wausau, two nephews, Perry (Ann) Niewolny, Manitowoc and Jack (Carol) Strombeck, Green Bay; two nieces, Bonnie Niewolny and Debra Callahan, both of Wausau; and seven great nieces and nephews, Jon Niewolny, Lisa Newcomb, Jennifer, Shannon and Sean Callahan, John Strombeck and Lori Jansen.
Besides her parents and husband, Melvin, she was preceded in death by one brother, Albert and one sister, Hilda.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday, December 3, 2010 at The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. Rev. Gerald Pehler O.F.M. Cap. will preside. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, Milan. Friends may call Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.
Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Colonial Manor Medical and Rehabilitation Center for all the wonderful care and support given to Evie over the past four years.
