Evelyn M. Hilber, 92, Marathon, died Saturday, September 05, 2015 at Copperleaf Assisted Living, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
She was born February 2, 1923 in Marathon, daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Kennedy) Hall. On April 11, 1944, she married Arthur Hilber in Marathon. He preceded her in death on April 5, 2001.
Evelyn graduated from Marathon High School and Marathon County Normal School and taught in a one room schoolhouse. She then went on to work for the Marathon Rubber Plant, Marathon Cheese, in-home day care, Green's Grocery Store and Berg's Variety and Clothing Store.
Evelyn was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Marathon and the Third Order of St. Francis. She lived a life of faith, love and wisdom and shared her faith and love with her family and grandchildren. Her sayings of wisdom from "It will be alright before you get married to Let go, let God" guided us through each day.
Among her favorite pastimes, she loved to bake, knit, crochet, sew and did many different crafts. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include, her children and grandchildren, Lois (Jerry) Koppa, Marathon and their children, Becky Koppa, Jill (Terry) Strasser, Bob Koppa and Jeremy (Karie) Koppa, Beth (Tom) Sommer, Edgar and their children, Scott (Brenda) Sommer, Jason Sommer, Jeffrey (Melissa) Sommer and their son-in-law, Jeff Allmann, Mary (Ron) Wilichowski, Marathon and their children, Josh (Ann) Wilichowski, Laura (James) Anderson and Liz (John) Plant, Carl (Jill) Hilber, Tucson, Arizona and their children, David (Ahn) Hilber and Molly Hilber, John (Larry) Hilber, Evansdale, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Chris (Tony) Shebenik, Wisconsin Rapids and their children, Jody (Eileen) Hilber and Jenna (Tony) Krahn; 29 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Dolores Maguire and Mary Zebro, both of Mosinee; one brother, Bob (Lucy) Hall, St. Peter's Missouri; her very special friend, Germaine Ritger, Marathon; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Art, she was preceded in death by one son, David Hilber; one granddaughter, Julie Allmann; three brothers, Edmund, Roger and Roland Hall; and two sisters, Bernice Knetter and Joyce Hall.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, September 7, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Bob and Jeremy Koppa, Scott, Jason and Jeffrey Sommer, Josh Wilichowski, Jody Hilber and honorary pallbearer, David Hilber.
