Eugene "Gene" S. Madden, 85, Wausau died Thursday, December 19, 2013 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at his home.
He was born November 28, 1928 in the town of Hewitt, son of the late John E. and Sophia (Londo) Madden. On July 7, 1951 he married Barbara Goetsch at St. Mary Catholic Church, Wausau. She survives.
Gene worked for Marathon Electric, Drott Manufacturing Corp and prior to his retirement he drove bus for WATS. Gene enjoyed spending time in his workshop, visiting and reminiscing with his family and friends and attending mud bog races. Gene was extremely proud to have been able to race one of the mud bog races within the past couple years.
Gene also loved hunting, fishing, traveling and attending the Kentucky Derby each year he was able to. He was also fond of the time he spent with Barb and was happy to know that he spoiled her for almost 62 years.
Survivors include his wife Barb Madden, Wausau, his children, Donna (Larry) Haldeman, Phillips, Diane (Joe) Whitford, Cottage Grove, Darlene Powers, Wausau, Dale (Sally) Madden, Drummond, Debbie (Gary) Jacobson, Madison and John E. Madden, Wausau, 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Gene is further survived by his siblings, Jeanette Goedie, Wausau, Donald (Toby) Madden, Winchester, Ray (Doris) Madden, Merrill, Jerry (Joan) Madden, Wausau and John "Butch" (Sharon) Madden, Gleason, his sister-in-law, Lorraine Poi and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Pat Madden.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, December 29, 2013 at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. The Rev. Timothy Welles will officiate. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the Sixth Street funeral home.
