Eugene G. Dembowski
78, Wausau, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at St. Clare's Hospital, Weston.
He was born January 4, 1929 in Chicago, son of the late Anton and Julia (Mindak) Dembowski. On April 15, 1951 he married Angelina Valle at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Chicago. She survives.
A veteran having served in the United States Army, he was also an accomplished trumpet player who played in the Army band. Being a first class mason who worked most of his life in the construction business he assisted with construction of both the John Hancock Building and the Sears Tower in Chicago. After relocating to Wausau in 1985 he continued in the masonry trade working for many years at Miron Construction Company. He was especially proud of building his brick home on Ethel Street in Wausau and of being part of the construction crew that built the new Horace Mann Middle School. Gene enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading, playing cards and listening to a wide variety of music. His favorite thing to do was to spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He also looked forward to the yearly family vacation on Lake Noquebay in Crivitz where they had gone for 48 years.
Gene had a generous spirit and was always willing to lend a hand to family and friends, he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his beloved wife Angie, Wausau; four children, Gene William (Amy Hardwicke) Dembowski, Chicago, Carol (Craig) Trinkl, Wausau, James (Sheila) Dembowski, Schofield and Mary (Jim) Cohen, Hawthorn Woods, IL; five grandchildren who lovingly called him "Pops", Vanessa and Stefanie Trinkl, Emma and Samuel Cohen and Michael Dembowski; one sister, Edna Baker, West Chicago, IL; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George (Mary) Sacheck, Chicago, many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2007 at the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Wausau. Rev. Daniel Hackel will preside. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau. Friends may call on Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth St., Wausau and again on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a 7:30 p.m. prayer service Friday at the funeral home.
The family wishes to thank all those who came to Gene's aid in the last minutes of his life and who assisted Angie during that dire time.
