Eugene A. Cortright

Eugene "Corky" A. Cortright 81, Wausau, died Monday, February 28, 2011 at Mount View Care Center, Wausau. He was born October 28, 1929 in Merrill, son of the late William and Ione (Horgan) Cortright. On October 4, 1952 he married Helen Bigsby at First Presbyterian Church, Wausau. She preceded him in death on March 30, 2005. Eugene served his country as a decorated serviceman in the United States Army Air Corp., serving in Korea from 1948 until 1952. He was a member of the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post No. 10 honor guard, Wausau and was proud of his military service. He worked for the Railroad as a diesel locomotive engineer and retired after 33 years of service. Eugene was also a member of the Wausau skeet and trap club from 1968 until 2005 in which he competed in many competitions out of state. Some of his hobbies included hunting, fishing and he volunteered for the hunters safety program. Survivors include his special friend, Brenda Bullock; two sons, Gary (Patti) Cortright and Keith (Tracy) Cortright, both of Wausau; daughter-in-law, Laurie Cortright, Eagle River; grandchildren, Thomas (Gail) and Matthew (Bonnie) Cortright, Kevin and Jason Cortright, Kyle Cortright, Alicia (Zach) Otto and Ryan Cortright; step-grandchildren, Kristine, Brett, Holly, Brian and Tim; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jessica, Hunter, Dakota, Donnica, Donnivin, Joseph, Deja, Easton, Sawyer, Braylon, Caedan, Toryn and Desirae; step-sister, Donna (Rosen) VanSlate, Merrill; and half-brother, Donald Holewinski. Besides his parents and wife, Helen, he was preceded in death by a son, Mark Cortright, a granddaughter, Amy Quillen and a half-sister, Colleen (Cortright) Renkens. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wausau. The Rev. John Meachen will officiate.
