Eugene M. Abitz

Eugene M. Abitz, age 67, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital surrounded by many of his beloved family members. Eugene was born January 7, 1951 to the late Martin and Isla (Smart) Abitz. He was currently a resident of Wausau Manor which has been home for the past year. He made many friends there. Formerly he resided in the Gleason, Mosinee, and Wausau areas. Growing up in Rib Mountain he attended grade school there and was a graduate of Wausau High. He had previously been employed by North Central Tool & Machine of Wausau. Eugene enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He liked working on cars and was quite gifted at fixing electronic gadgets. He was a big man with a generous heart, always willing to help how he could. Survivors include three sisters, Virginia Bucknell, Mae (Delos) Winter, and Ramona Knight; a brother Arnold (Connie) Abitz; sister-in-law, Kathleen Abitz, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Although we will miss Eugene dearly we are sure he is having a joyous reunion with his parents, brother Milt, sisters, Helen Ryan and Florence (Dave) Weiler and brother-in-law, Edwin Bucknell, all who preceded him in death. The family would like to thank the staff of Aspirus Cardiac ICU for the great care given to Eugene. The memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau is in charge of arrangements.
