Esther F. Vetter 101, a former Marathon resident, died Sunday February 22, 2009, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at the Miller Country Home, Edgar. She was born January 10, 1908 in Marathon, daughter of the late Jacob and Catherine (Knauf) Hornung. On June 15, 1936 she married Jacob Vetter in Marathon. He preceded her in death on July 30, 1990. At 16 years of age and until her marriage Esther worked as a domestic for affluent families on Wausau's East side. Her greatest enjoyments in life were her three daughters and their families and cooking and baking for relatives and friends. She also enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, and going on trips. Survivors include three daughters, Jacquiline (Florian) Lemanski, Marathon, Irene (Chester) Hoffman, Mosinee, Sandra (Lavern) Lang, Marathon, 13 grandchildren, Joel (Zona), Patrick (Barbara) and David (Paulette) Lemanski, Peggy (Brad) Miller, Deanna (Max) Martin, Susan (Howard) Blair, Carla (John) Bahr, Carmen, Kevin (Molly), Mike (Terrie) Lang, Pam (Mike) Telford, Ann (Bob) Murry, and Chris (friend Ashley) Lang; granddaughter-in-law, Shelly Hoffman; grandson-in-law, Tom Wogernese; 44 great grandchildren, Jill (Tim) Narlock, Julie (Jim Weideman) Wogernese, Matthew and Emily Wogernese, Jon, Michael and Sara Lemanski, Elizabeth (Patrick) Weiland, Hannah (Nicholas) Arneson, Abigail, Olivia, Noah, Andrew, Dana, Anthony, Devin, Alex and Danielle Lemanski, Spencer and Merideth Miller, Bryan (Annie), Daniel (Mindy) and Maria Hoffman, Andrea and Hans Martin, Leah, Tessa, Gabriella and Ariana Blair, Greyson, Katlyn and Nicholas Bahr, Stephanie and Kimberly Lang, Katrina and Michael Lang, Allison and Travis Telford, Samantha, Brad, Dustin, Brett, Lindsey and Brenna Murry; 4 great great grandsons, one sister, Dorothy Marose, Osseo. Besides her parents and husband, Jacob, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Bob Hoffman, one granddaughter, Cindy Wogernese, one great grandson, Daniel Lemanski, one great granddaughter, Beatrice Blair, five brothers, Clarence, Ervin, Leo, Art and Joe and two sisters, Ella and Evelyn. The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Thursday February 26, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. Weds. At the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon and again on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to David and Kathy Miller at Miller's Country Home and the staff of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services for the compassionate care given to Esther during her stay.
