Esther B. Schmidt

Esther B. Schmidt, 98, formerly of Edgar, died Monday October 1, 2001 at North Central Health Care Facilities, Wausau. She was born February 6, 1903 in the Town of Wien, daughter of the late Friederich and Emma (Greening) Bartell. On October 3, 1925 she married Otto Schmidt in Edgar. He preceded her in death on December 18, 1973. Esther attended schools in Edgar and graduated from the Marathon County Normal School. She was a school teacher at Fillmore School in Cassel and Wayside School in Rib Falls. Esther was bookkeeper for Standard Basket Company for nine years. She worked for the Bank of Edgar from 1936 through 1973 and became assistant cashier in 1963. Esther was an active member of her community and church. She was organist for St. Stephen Lutheran Church, member of the choir, Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Ruth Circle. Survivors include a step-granddaughter; three step-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Thursday, October 4, 2001 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Edgar. Reverend Linda M. Dutton will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Stephen Lutheran Cemetery, Edgar. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00pm until time of services at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar is in charge of arrangements.
