Erna H. Barkow

Erna H. Barkow 96, Wausau, formerly of Athens, died Friday, January 27, 2006 at North Central Health Care Center, Wausau. She was born December 13, 1909 in the town of Hamburg, daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Thurs) Waldow. On November 1, 1930 she married Bernard Barkow in the town of Hamburg. He survives. Erna was a homemaker and also farmed in the town of Bern with her husband Bernard for over 50 years. She enjoyed knitting, embroidering, crocheting and spending countless hours in her flower gardens. Survivors besides her husband, Bernard Barkow, Wausau include her children, Bernette (Alvin) Steffenhagen, Merrill and Dale (Rosalie) Barkow, Athens, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter and one daughter-in-law, Evelyn Barkow, Medford. Besides her parents, Erna was preceded in death by her son Marvin Barkow and one brother, Edwin Waldow. Pallbearers will be Russell, Brian and Todd Barkow, David Teske, Harlan Kremsreiter and Michael Von Loh. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens. The Rev. Donn Radde will officiate. Burial will be in Athens Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens is in charge of arrangements.
