Emma C. Kondzela

EMMA C. KONDZELA, 93, a former Edgar resident, died June 28, 2003, while surrounded by family members at her daughter's home in Anchorage, Alaska. She was born on May 17, 1910 in Marathon City and attended St. John Catholic School in Edgar. She married John Kondzela at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar, in 1934. Emma and her husband moved to Oregon in the 1940's, from there they moved to Alaska in 1952. Emma and her family lived first in Ketchikan and then in Sitka where they stayed for over thirty years. Emma was primarily a homemaker. She loved children and while living in Oregon, she and her husband John, were foster parents. Family wrote, "Her greatest pleasure in life was taking care of her husband, daughter and grandchildren. She was a dedicated wife and mother, becoming her husband's primary care giver after his stroke in 1985. She took pleasure in simple family activities and enjoyed cooking and baking. Many family members and their friends remember her oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip cookies. Emma always put family and friends first. She touched the hearts of everyone she met. Her presence enriched all our lives and she will be missed." She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and John Wells of Anchorage; grandchildren, Lisa and John Stanley of Anchorage; great granddaughter, Jocelyn Stanley of Alvin, Texas and sister, Marcella Riley of Edgar, Wisconsin. Emma was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John P. Kondzela. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2003 at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. Rev. Norman Boneck will preside. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar is in charge of local arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in her name to any children's charity.
