Emilie Huml Smith, 88, Town of Rib Mountain, died Friday, October 2, 2009 at Colonial Manor Medical & Rehabilitation Center, Wausau, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice services.
She was born February 7, 1921 in Prague, Czechoslovakia, daughter of the late Anton E. and Tatjana (Hetmansky) Huml. On August 8, 1949, she married Donald Smith in Freising Bavaria, Germany. Together they came to the United States in 1950 and had a son Donald C. Smith, born August 11, 1950. He preceded her in death August of 2005.
Emilie and her husband lived in San Antonio, Tex., Ogden, Utah and Roseville, Calif. while Donald was in the military which he left in 1953. That same year Emilie became a United States citizen November 10, 1953. Emilie trained as a dental hygienist in Germany but was mainly a homemaker in the United States. She truly enjoyed reading.
After the military they lived in Berkley, Mich. and Iron Mountain, Mich. before moving to the Town of Rib Mountain in 1975. There she was a member at Immanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Donald, two sisters-in-law, Gloria (Peter) Frew, Loganville, Ga., and Jean (John) Dreisbach, Loganville, Ga. and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son.
A memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau.
