Emil B. Reissmann
88, Wausau, died Tuesday January 17, 2012 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
He was born February 13, 1923, in Wausau, son of the late Emil and Emma (Kuckherman) Reissmann. On June 8, 1946, he married Ruth Irick in Wausau. She survives.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II and was a member of the Army Reserves retiring in 1983 as Chief Warrant Officer.
At the time of his retirement in 1978, Emil had been employed as a Staff Training Assistant at the Army Reserve Center, Wausau. Emil was a member of the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post No. 10, Wausau, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post No. 388, Wausau, their Last Man's Club and the Reserve Officers Association. He was a longtime member of The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, their Holy Name Society and the Inner Church Dartball League.
Special to Emil was the time spent with his family, especially attending the grandchildren's school and sporting activities. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife Ruth and visited her several times per day at the nursing home.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Reissmann, Wausau, three children, Karen (Marvin) Strassburger, Rib Mountain, and their family, Jeremy (Tammy) Strassburger and Joel Strassburger; James (Mary) Reissmann, Rib Mountain and their family, Kelly (Tim Specht) Reissmann and Kevin Reissmann; Bonnie (Robert) Pergolski, Wausau, and their family, Jenna and Alisa Pergolski, four great grandchildren, Jacob Strassburger, Tiffany Strassburger, Zachary Strassburger and Jarrett Lech.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sharon, and two sisters, Ruth Aschenbrenner, and Eleanora Jagler.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday January 20, 2012 at the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. Rev. Gerald Pehler O.F.M. Cap. will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Never Forgotten Honor Flight, which was a program he had the honor of participating in the spring of 2011.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Aspirus Palliative Care Unit, Comfort Care and Hospice Services, as well as all of the support staff involved with Emil's care over the past several months. Your care and compassion for Emil and his family are truly appreciated.
