Elroy C. Huebner
87, Wausau, died Friday, November 18, 2011 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Colonial Manor Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Wausau.
He was born October 27, 1924 in the town of Day, son of the late Elmer and Ida (Schroeder) Huebner. As a child, Elroy met the love of his life, Angeline Gorke, in a rural one room school house. They were reacquainted after the war and were married in Marshfield on June 4, 1946.
Elroy served heroically in the United States 8th Airforce during World War II and flew 29 missions in a B17. During that time, he witnessed the death of five crew mates. He was a major in the Airforce Reserves until 1970. For 40 years, Elroy worked as a parts manager for Fred Mueller, Wausau. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed many years of attending family reunions. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Angeline Huebner, Wausau; three children, Charles (Maxine) Huebner, Wausau, Kathleen Huebner, Wausau and Richard Huebner, Minneapolis, Minn.; and two grandchildren, Joy and Ruth Huebner, both of Wausau.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, LaVerne Huebner, Irene Kelnhofer and Earl Huebner.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Wausau, with military honors conducted by the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post No. 10, Wausau. Rev. Paulette Creswell will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau. Friends may call Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
