Eloda M. Kohnhorst

May 2, 1926 — December 19, 2013

Eloda "Odie" M. Kohnhorst, 87, Wausau, passed away December 19, 2013 at Aspirus Hospice House, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 2, 1926 in Wausau, daughter of the late Arnold and Margaret (Berdan) Schenzel. They later divorced, and Margaret raised Eloda and her brother, Jack, on her own. Eloda received the nickname "Odie" when her brother could not pronounce her given name. She always joked that she had the name "Odie" before the dog in the Garfield comic strip. Eloda met Hubert at the age of sixteen, and married him on March 31, 1943, before he was sent overseas to serve in World War II. They celebrated 70 years of marriage this year. They had two loving daughters, Judy Rhyner who preceded her in death on October 27, 2001, and Cheryl Kohnhorst who survives and lives in Wausau. Eloda lived her life as a homemaker. She spent her free time reading, crocheting and embroidering. Eloda loved to travel with Cheryl to Wisconsin Dells for concerts and they also took bus trips to several places throughout Wisconsin. She also enjoyed attending concerts at the Grand Theatre in Wausau. Eloda is further survived by her four legged companion, "Patches"; two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, all of Eagle River; one sister-in-law; nieces and nephews, and many friends she made over her lifetime. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy; her step-father; one brother; sisters-in-law; and brothers-in-law. Thank you to family and friends for all the help and care during this difficult time. A big thank you to Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, especially Matt, for all of his care and help and to all the angels at Aspirus Hospice House who took such great care of mom during her last days. God Bless all of you. In accordance with Eloda's wishes, no services will be held. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau is in charge of arrangements.
