Elmer M. Saeger

Elmer M. Saeger was welcomed into the Kingdom of our Lord on his 83rd birthday at Wausau Manor after a short bout with cancer. Elmer was born on August 16, 1931 in the town of Maine, son of the late Edward and Clara (Steckling), Saeger. On September 30, 1950, he married Loretta Grawein at St. Paul Lutheran Church in the town of Berlin. Together they had two daughters, Kathy (Allen) Czeck of Wausau, and Kris (Al) Cordova of Tomahawk. Elmer, along with his brother Rueben, were very accomplished carpenters, building many beautiful homes in the central and northern part of Wisconsin. Besides his love of woodworking, Elmer was an avid reader, especially westerns. He loved to fish, and loved listening and dancing to polkas and waltzes. He had a beautiful singing voice, and sang in the choir at Good Shepherd Church for many years. Elmer was a very kind and likeable man, as well as a man with a strong, Christian faith. Along with his wife and daughters, Elmer is survived by his five grandchildren, Kari, (Nick Hettinga), and Chad (Shana) Czeck of Wausau, Andy Cordova, of Rhinelander, Nick (Christy) Cordova of Merrill, and Lori Cordova of Wausau; eight great-grandchildren, Gage and Austin Hettinga, Chandler and Chayse Czeck, Mark and Kerra Cordova, and Megan and James Cordova. Elmer is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Delphine Saeger, of Rib Mountain, and Elvira Saeger of the town of Maine, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Ervin and Rueben. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wausau. Rev. Erik Olson will officiate. Friends may call Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth St., Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
