Elizabeth C. Zynda

December 21, 2010 — November 24, 2010

Elizabeth 'Betty' Caroline Zynda, 83, passed away peacefully at Wausau Manor on Wednesday, November 24, 2010, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Care. Betty was born to Caroline and James Peskie on December 21, 1926, in Milwaukee. She met her future husband when she went along on a blind date with a girlfriend who was supposed to meet a handsome, athletic, fresh out of the service Clark Gable look-a-like. As fate would have it, Betty ended up connecting with the blind date rather than her friend. On July 22, 1950 she married Conrad Joseph Zynda, and together they made a warm and loving home, and raised five children. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Sandy Gaulke (in 1999), and a brother, Eugene (in 2010). Betty is survived by her husband, Conrad 'Connie', Wausau; son Randy Zynda, Ringle; daughter Candy (Rick) Ostrowski, Wausau; son Andy (Barb) Zynda, Wausau; and daughter Renee (Montgomery) Scheel, Weston. She is further survived by grandchildren Jennifer and Jeremy Ostrowski, Dale Zajackowski, Wayne Danczyik, and Clint, Chloe and Calli Scheel. Her six sisters also survive; Mona, Christine, Theresa, Donna, Estelle and Elsie, as well as many nieces and nephews. Betty's working career led her through many different occupations, but they all took second place to her priority of being a wife and mother. Although she often was the primary caretaker of the family due to Connie's over-the-road job, she never complained, and always managed to find time to volunteer. Betty was a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, was a member of the Ladies Council of St. Matthew Catholic Church, and headed up numerous fundraising projects for the church, especially bake sales where her homemade bread was always the first to go. Up until macular degeneration took her sight, Betty was a master seamstress, and her home was a testament to her skills. She took great pride in sewing curtains, bedspreads, comforters, decorative pillows, wall-hangings, tablecloths with embroidery, and of course, her wardrobe and clothing for the children and grandchildren. Additionally, her creations included everything from lovingly crocheted baby blankets, to formal dresses, to Halloween costumes A
