Elizabeth J. Sheldon

Elizabeth "Betty" J. Sheldon 85, Wausau, died Wednesday, January 23, 2008 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Kennedy Park Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Weston. She was born September 17, 1922 in Port Washington, daughter of the late Fred and Anna (Thums) Rapp. Betty graduated from Wausau High School in 1941. On June 22, 1946, she married fellow north ender Leon "Ray" Sheldon in Wausau. He preceded her in death on March 10, 1998. Betty worked in the circulation department at the Wausau Daily Herald for 21 years, where she retired in 1988. When she started, all the payments were entered by hand into a ledger book and the paper carrier's bills were hand written and the press orders (how many papers to print), were made by adding all of the carrier's bills. The paper carriers collected the money from the customers and brought it to the Daily Herald for Betty to count. She was happy when the circulation department was computerized in the mid 1980's. Betty thought computers were great. Survivors include, one son, Gary (Barb) Sheldon, Prescott, Ariz. and their children, Brian and Kimberly; three daughters, Karen (Alan) Butalla, Wausau and their children, Justen, Nora and Kay; Cynthia Mastny, Norfolk, Nebr. and her son, Timothy and Raeann (Jeffrey) Rowland, Rothschild and their daughter, Sarah (Joe Fulton); four great grandchildren; one sister, Ruthann (Wallace) Wunsch, Sparta; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Ray, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Valeria Rapp, Evelyn Metzke and Florence Rapp. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at the Sixth Street funeral home. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Harmony Living Centers at Terrace Court for the loving care given to Betty for nearly four years and the staff of Aspirus Hospice Services for all their care and support.
