Elda P. Bonvincin
93, Wausau, died Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill.
She was born June 1, 1912 in Hibbing, Minn., daughter of the late Hannibal and Anna Bonvincin.
Elda grew up in Hibbing Minnesota, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Minnesota. She furthered her education earning her Master of Arts degree in 1955 at the University of Wisconsin, majoring in foreign languages.
From 1936-1944, she taught Latin, German, French and Spanish in Medford. Because of her love of Rib Mountain and skiing, she took a position at Wausau East High School in 1944, continuing her teaching of foreign languages. Consequently, she organized a high school ski club and started the high school ski racing program as a coach for 16 years, during which time her teams won five consecutive state championships. She retired in 1976, following 40 years of teaching.
She was a member of the Rib Mountain Ski Club, Catholic Women's Club, YMCA, YWCA, Antique Study Club, Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum, Wisconsin Association Foreign Language Teachers, Marathon County Retired Teachers Association and A.A.R.P.
Among her many activities, she was a docent at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum, served on the Board of Directors of the Rib Mountain Ski Club, assisted with the "Ski for Youth" program at Sylvan Hill and at the Badger State Winter program. She also enjoyed traveling in the summer.
She is survived by two sisters, Agnes Spires, Essex Junction, Vt. and Alyce Rees, Redlands, Calif.; and one brother, Rudolph Bonvincin, Hibbing, Minn.
