Elaine R. Gillis
87, Wausau, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 22, 2007 at Marywood Convalescent Center, Wausau.
She was born April 5, 1920 in Green Bay, daughter of the late Ben and Delphine (LeFevre) Freriks. On May 6, 1939, she married Elmer H. Gillis at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Green Bay. He preceded her in death on January 4, 1994.
Elaine was a member of the The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus and their St. Catherine's Council and Ministry of Praise. Among her many interests, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, tending to her plants, and most of all, spending time with her family and many grandchildren. Elaine will always be remembered for her wonderful hospitality and the many meals she prepared for family holidays and get togethers.
Survivors include, two daughters, Mary (James) Schuster, Wausau and Marlene (David) Schmirler, Wausau; eight grandchildren, Barbara (Tom) Majewski, Sun Prairie, Steve Schuster, Chicago, Ill., Debra (Steve) Arendt, Green Bay, Michelle (Ken) Pozorski, Mosinee, Scott (Heather) Schmirler, Reedsburg, Dawn (Chris) Dietsche, Wausau and Amy and Adam Schmirler, Wausau; eight great grandchildren, Rebecca, Colin, Ryan, Brodie, Brennan, Joshua, Jeremiah and Leeland; one sister, June Lealou, DePere; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Elmer, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael Schuster; one sister, Bernice Alsteen; and two brothers-in-law, Clifford Alsteen and Gordon Lealou.
The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2007 at The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. Rev. Joseph Gyim-Austin will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. There will be a parish rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Marywood Convalescent Center, Wausau for all of the wonderful care and compassion given to Elaine and her family during her stay there.
