Eileen R. Gage 84, of Harmony Court, Wausau, formerly of Marathon, died Thursday November 20, 2008 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services. She was born March 25, 1924, in Wausau, daughter of the late Vincent and Alvera (Schmidlkofer) Gage. Eileen worked for several years at V.W. Gage General Merchandise, Marathon then had been employed at Marathon Cheese retiring in 1991. Among her favorite things to do were traveling, crocheting, puzzles and corresponding with pen pals. She was a volunteer at St. Anthony Retreat Center and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the National Catholic Society of Foresters and the Parish Council of Catholic Women at St. Mary Catholic Church. Survivors include a sister, Janet Gage, Oak Park Heights, Minn., three brothers, Robert Gage, Jerry (Janice) Gage and Vince (Ellie) Gage, all of Marathon, three nieces and eight nephews. Besides her parents, Eileen was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Eunice and Dan Whitely. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday November 25, 2008 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary Endowment Fund or St. Anthony Retreat Center.
