Edwin R. Kurtzweil

July 27, 1931 — May 7, 2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Edwin Kurtzweil. Edwin R. Kurtzweil, 86, died Monday, May 7, 2018 under the care of Interim Hospice and Palliative Care at Azura Memory Care, Wausau. He was born July 27, 1931 in the town of Emmet, son of the late Edward and Amelia (Martin) Kurtzweil. On November 12, 1955 he married Angeline Pospyhalla at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, town of Cassel. She survives. Edwin served his country in the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean War. He worked as a dairy and ginseng farmer in the town of Emmet for many years. Edwin was a farmer who was ahead of his time in the local area by installing a milking parlor in 1958 and later a 60 ft. silo. In about 1980, he began building ginseng gardens and experimented with a ginseng harvester and new growing methods. He built two ponds near the farm which provided all kinds of fun family gatherings for swimming, fishing, ice skating, and ice fishing. Although farm life kept him busy working, Edwin always made time to visit with his children, their families and friends, and especially enjoyed showing his grandchildren what farm life was all about. He collected and restored John Deere tractors, showing off his pride and joy at local parades and events. Edwin enjoyed deer hunting in New Wood and fishing trips to northern WI and Canada with his brothers, friends, sons, and nephews. During the winters, he kept an ice fishing shack on the Eau Plaine Flowage and thoroughly enjoyed ice fishing as often as he could. Edwin and Angie made many friends as they travelled on adventures to California, Texas, Alaska, New York and many other states. Everywhere he went, Edwin found friends he already knew or easily made new friends along the way. He will be missed dearly. Survivors include his wife, Angeline, Edgar; children, Bonnie (LeRoy Kostroski) Marschall, Weston, Lynn (Bob Quaderer) Reger, Rib Mountain, Donna (Dan King) Lund, Austin, Texas, Karl (Laurie) Kurtzweil, Edgar and Dale (Linda) Kurtzweil, Edgar; grandchildren, Ashley Marschall, Ryan (Kari) Reger, Callie Reger, Connor and Jaxson Kurtzweil; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Elizabeth Kaiser, Edgar, Cecelia Schoenfuss, Weston, Tom (Shirley) Kurtzweil, Stratford and Margaret (Tom) Lirette, Denver; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Roman, Donald and Anthony Kurtzweil and three sisters, Rita Prihoda, Dorothy Rasmussen and Verene Stark, two grandsons, Travis and Trevor Kurtzweil. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at Noon on Friday, May 11, 2018 at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar and officiated by Rev. Monsignor Joseph Diermeier and Deacon Greg Kaiser. Visitation at the church will begin at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
