Edwin "Eddie" J. Gliniecki
73, Kronenwetter, died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at Kennedy Park Medical and Rehabilitation Center under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, after a 28-year struggle with Multiple Sclerosis.
He was born June 14, 1934 in Rosholt, son of the late Edward and Helen (Gilmeister) Gliniecki. On June 15, 1963 he married Agnes Brzezinski in Wausau.
Eddie served his country in the United States Army from 1956 until 1958 at Fort Leonardwood in Missouri and also in Germany. He worked as a mechanic for Weyerhaeuser Paper Mill. Among his many involvements he was a member of the Knights of Columbus Sacred Heart Council 4628 and Catholic Knights. He also served on the Parish Council of St. Mark Catholic Church and did volunteer work at both the church and school. He derived great perseverance through his strong faith in God which helped him cope with his challenging illness. His interests included cars, music (especially polkas) and gardening. He was very proud of the produce he harvested. When his illness prevented him from participating in many activities, Eddie greatly enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Eddie was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed by everyone whose lives he touched.
Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Agnes, Kronenwetter, who faithfully cared for him throughout the course of his illness; children, Joseph (Nina) Gliniecki, Rochester, Minn., Carol (George) Cachares, Orland Park, Ill., Annette (Dean) Witter, McFarland, Julie Gliniecki, Minneapolis, Minn. and David Gliniecki, Chicago, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Isabel, Matthew, Andrew, Anna, Julia, Benjamin, Jacob and Luke; brother, Chester (Evelyn) Gliniecki, Schofield; sisters, Annie Gliniecki, Hatley, Eleanor (Henry) Schroedel, Minocqua, Dorothy (Clark) Barry, Schofield and Irene (Warren) Wagberg, Stephenson, Mich.; many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at St. Mark Catholic Church, Rothschild. Rev. Allan L. Slowiak will preside. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kronenwetter. Friends may call Tuesday, March 18, 2008 from 4 - 8 p.m. at St. Mark Catholic Church, 602 Military Road, Rothschild, and again Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to all the health care workers who assisted Eddie at home and to the staff of Kennedy Park Medical and Rehabilitation Center for the exceptional care given during his stay.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
