Edwin Ahrens Sr

Edwin Ahrens Sr., 96, Wausau, died Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Wellington Place, Wausau. Edwin was born April 27, 1919 in Rib Falls to the late John and Lena (Bonack) Ahrens. On March 29, 1941 he married Virginia Assells in Dubuque, IA. She survives. After graduating from Wausau High School in 1937, Edwin entered the United States Army Airforce and served in the 1055 Signal Company until 1945. He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post 10. Attending the Honor Flight with his two brothers John and Clarence was one of the great highlights of his life. Edwin was employed as an accountant with Wisconsin Valley Improvement until his retirement in 1984. In his free time after retirement, Edwin could often be found on the golf course and over the years he perfected his skills to the point where he had achieved many holes in one. Edwin is survived by his wife of 74 years, Virginia, Wausau; children Kenneth (Betty) Ahrens, Marathon, Kathleen (Edward) Hagenbucher, Wausau, Edwin Jr. (friend Sue Austin) Weston; grandchildren Sandra (Larry) Buchberger, Sara (Paul) Jaglinski, Shawn (Stacy) Hagenbucher, Tim Hagenbucher; greatgrandchildren Jordyn Jaglinski, Peyton and Lucas Hagenbucher; sister JoAnn Hellrud. Besides his parents, Edwin was preceeded in death by his brothers Mel, Clarence and John. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Wausau. Rev. Robert Schaller will preside. Entombment will be in the Garden of Eternal Rest Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Wausau or the charity of your choice.
