Edward R. Smith

Edward R. Smith, 88, Wausau, died Sunday, May 11, 2014 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Mount View Care Center, Wausau. He was born February 6, 1926 in Chippewa Falls, son of the late Edward and Agnes (Morrison) Smith. On March 28, 1970 he married Mary McDonnell in Rhinelander. She survives. Edward worked for many years in the industrial chemical business and for the past 30 years operated his own chemical distribution center called Calco Chemicals. Edward served his country during World War II in the United States Army stationed in Mariana Islands on Saipan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with his wife throughout the United States. In 2013 Edward was proud to have taken part in the Never Forgotten Honor Flight. Second only to cherished time spent with his wife and family was his love of flying which he did until his mid-eighties. Survivors include his wife, Mary Smith, Wausau; children, David Smith, Diane Sloan and Dean Smith, all of Houston, Texas; step children, Debra Heinzen, Wausau, Tim (Brenda) Hurley, Wausau and Sandra (David) Jagler, Marathon; grandchildren, David and Kristian Smith, Jonathan (Ashley) Sloan, Natalie (Brian) Murdock, Casey, Kyle and Kali Krahn, Brandon and Justin Hurley, Jennifer and Tyler Imhoff, Jon (Tara) Jagler and Jennifer (Nate) Davidson; six great grandchildren; sisters, Vivian Postl, Tomahawk and Patricia Kressian, Minnesota; brother, Bill (Linda) Smith, Plymouth, many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mitch Heinzen, sister, Dorothy Postl and brother, Frank Smith. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau. Rev. Jeff Hinds will officiate. Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services all at the Stewart Avenue funeral home.
