Edward V. Slaminski

Edward V. "Eddie" Slaminski 88, Wausau, died Monday, January 26, 2009 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was born February 13, 1920 in Wausau, son of the late Vincent and Louise (Machyniak) Slaminski. On July 31, 1949, he married Adela Krejci in Wausau. She preceded him in death on June 7, 1995. Edward was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. For many years, he worked for the former American Can, Wausau until his retirement. Among his many interests, he enjoyed fishing, going to the casino, woodworking, gardening and cutting firewood. Edward was an avid Milwaukee Brewer fan and Green Bay Packer fan and also enjoyed his trips to Uncle Buck's lodge up North, where he was the "camp cook". Most of all, Edward enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include, six children, Sandy (Don) Buttke, JoAnn Augustine and Barb (Kim) Brandt, all of Kronenwetter, Don (Carol) Slaminski, Wausau, Bruce (Karee) Slaminski, Wausau and Ed (Karen) Slaminski, Spooner; eleven grandchildren, Renee (Dave) Brodhagen, Kronenwetter, Tracy Buttke, Kronenwetter, Adrian Augustine, Madison, Brittany Augustine, Milwaukee, Jenny Brandt, Kronenwetter, Blair, Adam and Jamee Slaminski, all of Wausau and Nicole, Sarah and Matt Slaminski, all of Spooner; three great grandchildren, Shelby, Casey and Jacob Brodhagen; four sisters, Eleanor Marvin, Christine Wilde, Dolores Dumdey and Jean Erickson, all of Wausau; two brothers, Larry (JoAnn) Slaminski, Alvin, Wis. and Robbie (Carol) Slaminski, Wausau; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, Adela, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Grace, Regina and Angeline. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2009 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10, Wausau. Friends may call Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again Friday from 10:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Hamied Rezazadeh and his staff and also the staff of the Oncology Unit of Aspirus Wausau Hospital, especially Dave, Jackie, Paula and Jason, for the care and support given to Edward and his family. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
