Edward W. Barszcz, 89, 1923 North Road, Mosinee, died Thursday, November 4, 2004 at Mount View Care Center, Wausau. He was born December 9, 1914 in Chicago, Ill., son of the late Michael and Helen (Wojcik) Barszcz.
On July 13, 1935 Edward was united in marriage to H. Olga Stym in Chicago.
He was head chef and manager of Triangle Restaurant, and in 1934 - 1935 he worked for the restaurant at the "Century of Progress" World Fair held in Chicago. In 1945, Ed and Olga moved to Mosinee to take over his family's farm which they operated until 1956. He was employed at the Jaeger Baking Company in Wausau, and for several years was a sales and service representative for Surge Milking Equipment.
Ed served as assessor for the Town of Kronenwetter, and as a member of the former Liberty Grade School Board. During the 1950's, he was an active leader of the Pioneer 4-H Club. He retired in 1978 from Wausau Homes, after 15 years of employment.
Among many things, he loved fishing, hunting, gardening and was an avid reader. Above all else he loved to cook. He especially enjoyed cooking at the hamburger stand at the annual picnic at St. John's Church in Peplin.
Survivors include, his wife of 69 years, Olga, Wausau; daughters, Barbara (Albert) Feldhaus, North Richland Hills, Texas and Charlotte (James) Michalik, Washburn; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Edward "Skip" in 1998; seven brothers; three sisters; and twin infant siblings.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be given in Ed's memory to "Friends of NCHC" for flower boxes or outdoor benches to be placed along newly completed walking paths around the Center's facilities. Memorials can be sent to North Central Health Care, 2400 Marshall Street, Wausau, WI 54403.
