Edna A. Riske

January 25, 1916 — August 5, 2014

Edna A. Riske, 98, was called to her Heavenly Home on Tuesday August 5, 2014. She was born January 25, 1916 in North Fond du Lac, daughter of the late Fredrick and Mary (Kraft) Erdmann. On May 26, 1945, she married Arnold G. Riske at St. Paul Lutheran Church, North Fond du Lac. He preceded her in death. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, attended St. Paul Lutheran School and graduated from North Fond du Lac High School in 1934. Edna and her best friend Emma Stargardt were career ladies before the term "career ladies" was invented. They worked at Infant Socks in Fond du Lac and Stewart Motors in Chicago assembling motors during World War II. After her marriage to Arnold in 1945, she assisted in all aspects of farming. She also worked at Deedons Clothing Store. She had many activities that filled her life with fun. She bowled for Burger Construction for numerous years, enjoyed endless games of Sheep Head with family & friends, and loved accompanying friends to the casino. Sunday lunches with Doug and Patty Riske were a highlight of each week. She was a member of the Lutheran Church Demonstration Club, Trinity Ladies Aide and the Bible Study group at Plisich Housing. After retiring from farming, she moved to Elm Street in Athens and developed a long time loving relationship with her next door neighbors, Gloria Lavicka and Sandy Ewan. Survivors include her children, Arnold (Carol) Riske, and Linda Eckert (Jon Oehrlein), two grandchildren, Tania (Lee Maluhm)Riske and Craig (Nikki) Riske, a brother, Bud Erdmann, a brother-in-law, George Casper, a sister-in-law, Doris (Charlie) Kittel along with many nieces, nephews and beloved friends. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ada Casper and Ona (Elmer) Metz and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Erdmann. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday August 7, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens. Rev. Jeffrey Lambrecht will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens, is in charge of arrangements.
