Edna W. Cherek

Edna W. Cherek 84, Wausau, died Sunday, December 23, 2007 at St. Joseph Hospital, Marshfield. She was born October 10, 1923 in Ringle, daughter of the late William and Louise (Neuendank) Barden. On September 27, 1947, she married Henry A. Cherek at St. Mary Catholic Church, Wausau. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2005. Edna and Henry owned and operated "Cherek's Windy Hill Bar" for 22 years. She had also been self-employed for many years, cleaning homes and businesses. Among her many interests, she enjoyed gardening, listening to polka music, spending time with her family and keeping busy. Survivors include, one daughter, Karen (Richard) Rhyner, Wausau; one grandson, Al (Janine) Abt and their children, Anthony and Samantha, Birnamwood; three granddaughters, Kay (Robbie) Resch and their son, Kodie, Birnamwood, Connie Johnson, Springfield, Mass. and Cassie Rhyner, Wausau; two step-grandsons, Tim (Kim) Rhyner and their sons, Aaron and Andrew, Houston, Minn. and Dan (Kim) Rhyner and their children, Gage, Cody and Kari, Winona, Minn.; two sisters, Cathrine Nutter, Minocqua and Helen Barden, Ringle; one sister-in-law, Luella Barden; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Henry, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Irene Clinkumbroomer, Bertha Kole and Sadie Burgoyne; her brother, Ross Barden and her twin brother, Edgar "Bud" Barden. The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2007 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Entombment will be in the Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Thursday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
