Edgar Barden

October 10, 1923 — February 5, 2004

Edgar "Bud" Barden, 80, T775 Marshall Hill Road, Wausau, died Thursday, February 5, 2004 under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital. He was born October 10, 1923 in the town of Easton, son of the late William and Louise (Neuendank) Barden. In April 1944, he married May Gavitt in Ringle. In May 1970, he married Vivian Krueger Pfaff in Merrill, she preceded him in death March 2000. In January 2001 he married Luella Steif Marten in Wausau. She survives. For 23 years, he was the owner and operator of Barden's Bar and Grocery in Aniwa and was also a truck driver for Drott Manufacturing and Kickbusch Trucking. His hobbies included gardening, birdwatching, card playing and especially listening to Polka music. He also enjoyed traveling, including trips to Florida in the winter. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army 796th Military Police Battalion from 1943 until 1946. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post No. 388 and the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post No. 10, Wausau. Survivors include his wife, Luella Barden, Wausau, a son, David (Mary Lou) Barden, Highlandville, Missouri, and their children, Jaki (Peter) Van Valen, Racine and Jodi (Michael) McBride, Waterford; a daughter, Denise (Brian) Boehm, Wausau and their children, Heather, Corry and Arron, Wausau; four step-children, Wayne (Lorna) Pfaff, Merrill, Gloria (Dave) Lemke, Merrill, Delores Pontzloff, Wausau, Beverly (Ronald) Meyer, Ringle, step-daughter-in-law, Yvonne (Roger) Wege, Wausau; 15 step-grandchildren, 23 step-great-grandchildren, one step-great-great-grandchild, five sisters, Bertha Kole, Schofield, Sadie Burgoyne, Wausau, Catherine Nutter, Minocqua, Edna (Henry) Cherek, Wausau, Helen Barden, Ringle. Besides his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Klinkunbroomer, a brother, Ross Barden and a step-son, Dennis Pfaff. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2004 at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Rev. Mary Zupansic will officiate. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, where full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion and V.F.W. Friends may call on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and again Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the Sixth Street funeral home.
