Earl T. Thompson
84, Wausau, died Weds. August 12, 2009 at Cedar Ridge Elder Services, under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.
He was born August 11, 1925, in Mosinee. After graduating high school, Earl proudly joined the US Navy and served his country as a gunner. He married Mae Jermac in Milwaukee. They had been married over 50 years.
Following his tour of duty, Earl worked and attended technical school for a period of time in Milwaukee before relocating to Wausau. After moving to Wausau, he joined together with his brother-in-law Ray Schmidt and Ray's brother Bernie, at Raybern Lighting Center. While working at Raybern Lighting, Earl decided to pursue his own electrical wholesale business and in 1972 started ETCO Electric Supply Inc. Earl spent 22 years building the business before retiring in 1994.
Survivors include his wife, Mae Thompson, Wausau, two sons, Jeffrey (Marikay) Thompson, Rothschild, Mark (Julie) Thompson, Ringle, one daughter, Sharon (Kevin) McCormick, Laguna Beach, Calif., six grandchildren, Jill (Matthew) Palecek, Jeff 'Buddy' (Gretchen) Thompson, Jonathon (Leslie) Thompson, Jordyn Thompson, Christopher and Michael Thompson, seven great grandchildren, Mason, Addymae, Makray and Aubrey Palecek, Owen, Sam and Finn Thompson and one brother, Harold Thompson, Mosinee.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday August 17, 2009 at the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, where full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion, Montgomery Plant Post No. 10, Wausau. Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Cedar Ridge Elder Services and Ministry Home Health Care Hospice for the special care given to Earl.
In honor and respect to the founder of ETCO Electric, the business will be closed on Monday August 17, 2009 to enable family and associates to attend funeral services for Earl.
