Earl E. Prochnow
87, Medford, died Monday, January 31, 2005 at Medford Memorial Nursing Home.
He was born May 3, 1917 in Milwaukee, son of the late Emil and Hattie (Schultz) Prochnow. On November 1, 1941, he married Alice Leichtnam in Abbotsford. She survives.
Earl was a dairy and horse farmer in the town of Hamburg and owner/operator of the Prochnow Tavern & Ballroom. Besides being a member of the Athens Fair Board, secretary for the Marathon County Tavern League, Earl was instrumental in the beginning of the Golden Horse Shoe Club, A & H Snowmobile Club, the Steam Show and participated in the Barnum & Bailey Circus Parades for 21 years in Milwaukee. Besides enjoying his horses & the horse-pulling contest at his tavern/ballroom, he participated in the Athens Fair for over 50 years.
Along with his wife, Alice Prochnow, Medford; survivors include his son, Dale (Bonnie) Prochnow, Medford; his grandchildren, Dale, Jr. (Bonnie) Prochnow and their children, James and Jonathon, Dawn (Mike) Held, and their children, Jessica, Rebecca and Samantha and Dean Prochnow.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Audrey Nimmerguth-Paglaroni.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 4, 2005 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens. Rev. Donn Radde will officiate. Burial will be in Athens Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the time of services at the church.
There will be a 8:00 p.m. prayer service Thursday evening at the Athens funeral home.
