Earl A. Janssen

Earl A. Janssen, 84, Schofield, died Monday April 22, 2013 at the Hospice House, Wausau. He was born August 25, 1928, in Milwaukee, son of the late William Sr. and Agnes (Goike) Janssen. On September 1, 1951, he married Nancy Schneider at St. Mary Catholic Church, Appleton. She preceded him in death on February 15, 2008. A 1946 graduate of Pius High School in Milwaukee, Earl joined the US Army for two years as a member of the 54th Paratroopers, earning his Parachutist Badge, before his honorable discharge in 1948. In 1952, he graduated from the Mortuary Science program at the Milwaukee Technical College and worked with his brother in Milwaukee before moving to Schofield in 1953. He and his wife Nancy purchased the old Ross home on Grand Avenue and founded Janssen Funeral Home. From the establishing of the funeral home until the time of his retirement, Earl provided the area with compassionate and dignified funeral services. Through the years, he was an active member of his community, serving in various capacities in the Lions Club, and the Knights of Columbus. Earl was an original charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4628 Schofield, WI, served as Grand Knight, and has been recognized for over 50 years of faithful service.
