Dr. Philip E. Podruch, Wausau, Wis., a former Wausau physician, died on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born April 30, 1924 in Wausau. He attended the University of Notre Dame and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Professional Studies and graduated from the Marquette University School of Medicine in 1947 with a M.D. degree. He completed an internship at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison, Wis., and practiced medicine in Barron, Wis. and Wausau until 1953 when he was called to active military service and served in Korea. He was a surgical resident at St. Joseph Hospital in Milwaukee, Wis. He completed a pediatric residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison and subsequently completed at traineeship in Mental Retardation and Developmental Disorders at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. In the interim, he was employed at the Southern Wisconsin Colony and Training School, and by the City of Milwaukee Health Department. In 1967, he joined the staff at the Child Evaluation Center, University of Louisville, Louisville, Ky. and retired from the University in 1986 as an Associate Professor. After his retirement, he had the title Emeritus Associate Professor. He was the author of publications in the field of Mental Retardation, Chromosome Disorders and Dermatoglyphics. He presented papers at national and international meetings.
He was a Fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics, the A.A.I.D.D. and the Human Biology Association. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Kentucky Medical Association, the Greater Louisville Pediatric Society, the American Dermatoglyphics Association and the International Dermatoglyphics Association.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was an avid contract bridge player and enjoyed playing duplicate and party bridge and was a member of the A.C.B.L. (American Contract Bridge League).
Survivors include one sister, Mary Alice Krier; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. L. L. Podruch and Catherine (Molter) Podruch; and one brother, Dr. Louis Podruch.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. James Schaefer will preside. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Wausau. Friends may call on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
