Dorothy "Bitsy" Mae Ewan

Dorothy “Bitsy” Mae Ewan, 94, Athens, died Monday, July 15, 2024 under the care of St. Croix Hospice at Athenian Living, Athens.

She was born April 29, 1930 in Athens, daughter of the late John and Leila (Kehl) Hopperdietzel.  On August 28, 1948 she married Marvin Ewan at Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens and he preceded her in death.

Bitsy graduated from Athens High School in 1948 and was a homemaker, mink farmer and also worked at Weyerhaeuser for over 20 years.  She enjoyed playing cards, knitting, crocheting, sewing and was an avid bowler until age 91.  Bitsy loved Polka music and playing her bass drum in the Old Timers Band.  She also loved taking annual fishing trips to Northern Minnesota with her family.

Survivors include her son, Edward “Butch” (Sue) Ewan; son-in-law, Jerry Wenzel; grandchildren, Melanie (Jeremy) Dickinson, Jesse Ewan, Eric (Lindsay) Ewan, Mike (Kaitlin) Wenzel and Dan (Morgan) Wenzel; great-grandchildren, Kadia and Vandy Fau, Nora and Willow Ewan, Zoe Thornton, Silas and Wilhelm Wenzel, and Eisley Wenzel.

Besides her parents and husband, Marvin, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Wenzel, granddaughter, Linda Wenzel, great-granddaughter, Hattie Ewan, brothers, Henry, Walter and Robert and sisters, Mary, Ellen, Grace and Lucille.

Funeral service will be 4:00 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens.  Rev. Mark Schwarz will officiate.  Burial will be in Athens Lutheran Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service all at Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens.
