Dorothy grew up in Shorewood, WI, and attended Shorwood High School and Marquette University, where she excelled in math and science. On May 31, 1941, she married David Winkowski, a Marquette graduate who was born in Bessemer, MI. They were married in Kahoka, MO . Shortly after their marriage, Dorothy followed her husband to Indian Town Gap, Pennsylvania, where she served as an Army wife during World War II. The Winkowskis returned to Shorewood in 1946 where they lived for over 60 years, until moving to Wausau in 1999. Throughout her life, Dorothy was an avid bridge player, shopping maven and loyal Packer fan. She had an industrious career as an antique dealer. She was a former member of the Marquette Association of University Women, Colonial Dames of the XVII Century and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of St. Michael's Parish and former member of St. Robert's.
Dorothy's talent for interior design and style allowed her to create very beautiful interiors with antiques in her homes thereby creating memories her family will forever cherish. Dorothy had an unsurpassed eye for a deal as she knew fine things and how to arrange. Dorothy dressed with feminine and classic hats and coats. Elegant and stylish, she was also humble, loving, exceedingly honest and down to earth with a great love for others and tolerance of all. She taught her children to just use basic
common sense when making life's decisions. She was classy. Dorothy was a mentally sharp, strong, wife, mother and grandmother until her slow decline into senile dementia the last six years of her life. One of Dorothy's great joys was identifying and relishing unexpected connections between family, friends and acquaintances. Love overcame her recent disabilities in that she always recognized and cherished visits from her very loving brood. David's devotion and endurance in caring for his wife of 69 years as she became ill was a true love story that will forever inspire her legacy of those of us who love her much more than could ever be decribed in this obituary.
