Dorothy O. Wendt
93, Wausau, died Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Wausau Manor Nursing Home.
She was born January 31, 1919 in the town of Hamburg, daughter of the late Charlie and Ella (Marth) Giese. Dorothy was the oldest of eight children. On September 3, 1938, she married Norman Wendt at St. John Lutheran Church, Rib Falls. He preceded her in death on December 17, 1990.
Dorothy was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Wausau since the church was established in 1950. She was a member of the St. Mark's Ladies Guild and also enjoyed the Bible Study Group and Christ Care Group. Dorothy was a member of the Main Busy Bees Homemaker Club, Naime Group, AARP, German Club and the Mt. View Auxiliary. She enjoyed volunteering at Bethesda Thrift Store in Wausau.
Prior to her retirement, Dorothy had been employed at the former Northwest Dry Cleaners and the former Winkleman's Department Store. She was a seamstress and also enjoyed making drapes and doing upholstery work.
Dorothy, along with her husband, Norman, loved traveling in their motor home, and had the opportunity to travel to all 50 states and Canada. They enjoyed spending their winters in Florida and California. In her later years, Dorothy traveled to 12 different countries.
Survivors include, one son, Gary (Diane Stienstra) Wendt, Belvidere, Ill.; two daughters, Diane (John) Loeffler, Lancaster, Pa. and Karen (Tom) Wadinski, Hazelhurst; four grandchildren, John (Natalie) Loeffler, Geneva, Switzerland, Lori (Steve) Ross, Clearwater, Fla., Paula (John) Tallarico, York, Pa. and Jason Wendt, Overland Park, Kans.; four great grandchildren, John and Julia Loeffler and James and Jarod Tallarico; one sister, Hazel Eisenhut, New Berlin; two brothers, Earl (Shirley) Giese, Denver, Colo. and Gordon (Eldora) Giese, Edgar; two sisters-in-law, Helen Wendt, Wausau and Carol Giese, Arbor Vitae.
Besides her parents and husband, Norman, she was preceded in death by one brother, Carlie Giese; three sisters, Mildred Giese, Mrytle Ollhoff and Betty Schulz; six brothers-in-law, Franklin Ollhoff, Ervin Schulz, Joe Eisenhut, and Alfred, Richard and Harry Wendt; and two sisters-in-law, Lydia Zastrow and Dorothy R. Wendt.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wausau. Rev. Bruce Lamont will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau and again on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wausau.
