Dorothy Krause, 85, Schofield, died Saturday, May 21, 2016, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
She was born July 23, 1930, in Mosinee, daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Unertl) Valiska. On December 29, 1951, she married James H. Krause in Minnesota. He preceded her in death September 23, 2006.
Dorothy was first and foremost a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Among her hobbies and interests were feeding and watching birds, gardening, canning, and especially tending her famous marigolds. Until the last few years, she was frequently seen in her yard mowing and trimming the lawn.
Especially generous with her time and talent, Dorothy volunteered for many causes. The Volunteers of Aspirus Wausau Hospital and Dorothy's beloved parish, St. Therese Church, held a special place in her heart. She was a member of the Decorating Committee where her creative spirit would beautify the church and if there was ever a question, her voice would speak a quiet final word. She belonged to the Angelus Choir and was affectionately referred to as the "Queen Mother." While her husband Jim served as Mayor of Schofield, Dorothy was known as the First Lady of Schofield. An adopted mother to many she would, with a twinkle in her eye, introduce herself to new friends as "Dorothy, like the one from the Wizard of Oz."
Survivors include two daughters: Sheryl (Douglas) Kazda, Schofield and Lisa Krause, Schofield, five grandchildren: Megan Warosh, Matthew Warosh, Amy (Steve) Martin, Christopher (Brenda) Kazda, and Curt Kazda, six great-grandchildren: Gracie, Noah, Annie and Teresa Martin, Margeaux Kazda, and Zeke Miller: five siblings, Charlie (Alice) Valiska, Don Valiska, Judy Valiska, Jim (Nina) Valiska, Linda Valiska, sisters-in-law: Dona (Bob) Stieber and Barb Valiska, special godchildren: Beth Strauss and Jon Stieber, special family friend who Dorothy considered her adopted son: Kevin King, and many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
