Dorothy S. Koerper
92, and a 17 year resident of Wausau, died February 8, 2005.
Dorothy was born in Seattle, Washington on January 27, 1913. Her mother was Charlotte Mitchell, born in Eau Claire, WI and her father was Robert Watson Sutherland, born in Workworth, Ontario, Canada.
Dorothy married Peter Joseph Koerper, Jr. on January 12, 1944 in Columbus, Ohio.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Koerper Hurst and son-in-law, Byron Hurst of Wausau, and three grandchildren: Lt. Christopher Nelson Hurst of San Diego, CA; Lt. Nicole Danielle Hurst of Souda Bay, on the Island of Crete, in Greece; and Midshipman First Class Andrew Joseph Hurst, Annapolis, MD.
Dorothy was especially fond of these grandchildren, all of whom serve their county as U.S. Navel offices. Christopher is a naval aviator, Nicole is a physician/flight surgeon, and Andrew is a senior at the U.S. Naval Academy, who will train to become a Naval Flight Officer. Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister, Marjorie Helmer, of Trevor, WI.
Dorothy worked for 35 years in the Map Department of the Lake County Courthouse in Waukegan, Illinois. Her favorite activities included travel, reading, sewing, gardening, and picnicking. Sunday dinners and watching Packer football games with her daughter and son-in-law were highlights during recent years. Dorothy lived independently and in good health until the last month of her life.
A service will be held in the spring when all grandchildren are able to gather with the family. Memorials may be directed to Comfort Care & Hospice Services, 333 Pine Ridge Blvd., Wausau. WI 54401
