Dorothy A. Jablonski

January 25, 1922 — June 2, 2009

Dorothy A. Jablonski 87, Wausau, passed away Tuesday June 2, 2009 at The Renaissance Assisted Living, Weston under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice. She was born January 25, 1922 in Wausau to the late Claude and Sarah (Sniegoski) Sobkowiak. Dorothy, after graduating from the former Wausau East High School, worked at Wisconsin Public Service for nine years. She later worked for a period of 35 years at Wisconsin Valley Trust Company and M & I Trust Company as a receptionist and account representative. During World War II, Dorothy worked as a Red Cross volunteer and the former Memorial Hospital receiving high praise for her work. She wore a uniform pinafore (blue or pink) with a white blouse and cap. Volunteers were trained and tested prior to service. Throughout her life she felt honored to have been a part of the nursing team during wartime. Mabel (Schmidt) Johnson, R.N. was the instructor. She married Edwin F. Jablonski on October 29, 1955 and had celebrated 50 years of married life at St. Michael Catholic Church. She enjoyed working and helping her husband and was an officer of five companies which he started with others or by himself. Dorothy was a member of the Catholic Women's Club, St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Michael Rosary Society and was a former president of the Wisconsin Public Service Credit Union. In her early life, Dorothy enjoyed annual trips to Chicago by train with a good friend, Jeanette Kroll, to attend the theater. Throughout her married life she visited 45 states and made four trips to Europe including Spain, England, Poland, Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Italy. Survivors include her husband, Edwin; two sisters, Betty (George) Stepanik, Schofield and Helen (James) Dreyer, Wausau; one brother-in-law, John Vitale, Detroit, Michigan; ten loving nephews and nieces, Dr. Daniel (Joan ) Jablonski, Cedarburg, Dr. Davis (Denise) Jablonski, Detroit, Mich., Ray (Patricia) Wrycha Jr., Rhinelander, James (Jacquelyn) Wrycha, Menasha, David (Gloria) Wrycha, Green Bay, Timothy (Sandra) Kipp, Milwaukee, Mary Kay (Tom) McDermott, Janesville, John (Lisa) Vitale, Detroit, Mich., Mike Vitale, Detroit, Mich., Theresa Jablonski Polk, Indianapolis, Ind.; seven grand nephews and nieces, Dr. Kristin Wrycha, Seattle, Wash., Dr. Benjamin Fisher, Seattle, Wash., Erin (Greg) Van Tassell, Janesville, Becky Kerins, Merrill, Bryan Wrycha, Tomahawk, Nicholas Wrycha, Seattle, Wash. And Dr. Ryan Kipp, Milwaukee. Dorothy was pleased to have five doctors in the immediate families as well as two nurses. After retiring, Dorothy enjoyed spending the winter months in Orlando, Florida area with her husband, Edwin. They met many new friends and valued spending time visiting relatives and friends from the Wausau area. We would like to thank the nursing staff of Renaissance Assisted Living, Saint Clare's Hospital and Ministry Home Care Hospice for the wonderful and kind service they gave us. This also applies to all the caregivers of the Renaissance Assisted Living who made us so comfortable during these sad days. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday June 6, 2009 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth St., Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
