Dorothy I. Hoppenworth

Dorothy I. Hoppenworth, 85, of Edgar, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Friday, May 30, 2014 at the House of the Dove, Marshfield. She was born January 3, 1929 in Stratford, daughter of the late Adolph and Helena (Ploman) Ross. On November 7, 1946, Dorothy married Paulus Hoppenworth. They raised eight children and were happily married for 60 years. Dorothy and her husband were dairy farmers for over 50 years. She was an active and dedicated member of St. John Lutheran Church ELCA in the town of Wien for many years. Dorothy enjoyed reading, embroidery, gardening, watching the Green Bay Packers and spending time with her family and her dog "Hazel". Survivors include, eight children, Dianne (Roger) Johnston, Grand Forks, ND, Connie (Ron) Peterka, Antigo, Larry (Jean) Hoppenworth, Stratford, LaRon (Debi) Hoppenworth, Edgar, Peggy (Michael) Koehmstedt, Rothschild, Trudy (Mark) Lindsley, DePere, Lori Burish, Wausau and Jay (Chris) Hoppenworth, Edgar; 25 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Berdine Bothe and Arvilla May; and one sister-in-law, Jane Ross. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paulus; one sister, Rosemary Bothe; and three brothers, Verlyn Ross, Leonard Ross and Edward Ross. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at St. John Lutheran Church, ELCA, W1000 County Road N, Edgar. Rev. Gail Sowell will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar and again on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Dorothy's name. The family would like to thank the staff at Ministry Saint Josephs Hospital and the staff at the House of the Dove for their dedication, support and compassion during a difficult time.
