Dorothy C. Hollis, age 88, Wausau, died unexpectedly Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
She was born February 4, 1925 in town of Carson, daughter of the late Walter and Angeline (Kowalczyk) Kawski. On June 10, 1944 she married Maynard Hollis at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Mill Creek. He preceded her in death on August 7, 2004.
Dorothy enjoyed embroidering, gardening and baking cookies for her grandkids and great-grandkids. She was an avid Packer fan and had a love for the Holidays, preparing the meals for up to 35 people and most of all spending time with her family. Dorothy was a charter member of the Church of St. Anne where she was also a member of both the Circle of Joy and Our Lady of Fatima Council. She also volunteered at church for fish fries, washed and ironed the linens and helped with cleaning church.
Survivors include her children, Dianne (Jerry) Ress, Wausau;Geraldine Kloos, Wausau; Robert (Mary Beth) Hollis, Schofield; Timm (Lynda) Hollis, Wausau; Ken (Mary) Hollis, Schofield; 14 grandchildren, Chris (Cheri) Ress, Michael (Katherine) Ress, Tara Ress, David (Katie) Ress, Tom Ress, Jeremy (Laurie) Kloos, Bryan (Kelly) Kloos, Alexandra Hollis, Samuel Hollis, LaReina (Michael) Tipping, Rebecca (fiance Jordan Westphal) Hollis, Amannda (Mike) McAlister, Alexis Hollis and Emily Hollis, seven great-grandchildren, Jacob, William and Owen Ress, Crystal, Cameron, and Caden Kloos, and Elsie Tipping; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Kawski and Pauline Schwartz.
Besides her parents and husband, Maynard, she was preceded in death by seven siblings, Ted, Anton, Steve and Walter Jr. Kawski, Gen Engebretson, Irene Zakrzewski and Anna Zielinski.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau. The Rev. Alan Burkhardt will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish rosary service 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sixth Street funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
